A memorial service for the jazz star Sir John Dankworth is being held at the Buckinghamshire theatre he owned with his wife Dame Cleo Laine.

Sir John, known as Johnny, died at the age of 82 in February after being ill for many months.

Dame Cleo announced his death at the 40th anniversary concert of The Stables, the venue they set up in their garden in Wavendon, Milton Keynes.

The memorial will be held at The Stables following his funeral. </p

Singer Amy Winehouse has admitted assaulting a theatre manager during a Christmas pantomime Cinderella.

Winehouse, 26, lashed out at the 27-year-old after disrupting the performance at Milton Keynes Theatre in Buckinghamshire last month.

The Back To Black singer pleaded guilty to common assault and disorder at Milton Keynes Magistrates' Court.

Winehouse, from Barnet, London, was given a two year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 in costs.

Winehouse, who was charged under her married name Amy Civil, was also order to pay £100 in compensation to her victim, Richard Pound, the theatre's front-of-house manager.

'Alcohol played part'

District judge Peter Crabtree told her: "Mr Pound is a person whose job involves interaction with the public.

"If he's assaulted he deserves the court's protection.

"In this case it's obvious that alcohol played its part."

Passing sentence, he added: "It may be harder than a fine because you have now got to stay on the straight and narrow for the next two years."

Winehouse sat quietly in the dock wearing a short dark skirt and white shirt, and sporting her signature beehive hairstyle.

She was arrested on 23 December after attending Milton Keynes police station voluntarily after the incident on 19 December.

The pantomime starred Mickey Rooney and Bobby Davro. </p
